This first artifact is my letter that I wrote to Congressman Mike Turner about the Isreali Palestinian conflict. The highlighter writing in the middle is where I commented on things that I needed to fix or things that I did fix to improve the strength in my arguement.

This second artifact is the first part of my genocide poster. This piece shows that my poster was metaphorical but still very literal so that people would still understand.

Portfolio Reflection

Class addressed: I chose to talk about the genocide project that I did in history class and language arts.

Claim of growth: I feel that I have grown most in my understanding of Genocide and what it means and what makes something a "Genocide".

What this change looks like: This change can be shown by the fact that I now can explain all about genocide and explain specific genocides when asked to. For example if you asked me about the Armenian genocide I would be able to tell you the death toll, where it happened, when it happened and about the life styles that people had whilst it was going on. This change can also be demonstated because I can determine if something should be considered a genocide or if it was not.

Evidence from other classes: The evidence from other classes that I show to prove that this unit has helped me would be how I think about or look at humans, diseases, deaths and whatever else because now that i have done the unit in history class about genocide I can think about all of these things differently because they were all in the genocides we learned about. For example we are talking about diseases and how they are related to globalization in wellness class, language arts, biology and history and now that I have written a arguementitive letter and have made a poster involving the past I can break them into several layers to understand them like we did with the genocides.

Specific learning endeavor: the specific learning endeavor that prompted this growth was the conflict and genocide unit.

Purpose, process and products: There were to parts of this project. The first part was writing a letter to our congressman, and the second was a poster recognizing the genocide. The point of the letter that we wrote was to tell out congressman what we wanted to happen in the Israeli Palestinian conflict. other goal of the letter was to show our teachers that we understood the conflict and were able to take a stance a expand on it.

To start the letter we learned all about the conflict and then we learned about genocide by reading a book of our choice in language arts and writing down information in history. After this we learned how to write a persuasive letter in language arts. Finally we took the last few weeks writing and finalizing our letters. And for our poster project, once we were done reading out book we were put into a group of our choice which then created a draft of an image that was metaphorical to our genocide and would make people think. After the drafting process we made a stamp of our image that we then printed and put a statistic and slogan onto.

Letter artifact: The letter artifact was the most important of the two artifacts because this is where we explained our knowledge of the conflict and asked questions about it if we needed to clarify things. This artifact is also where we learned about the documents that we needed to understand to be able to finish the assignment such as what i used in my letter the Balfour decleration and Resolution 242. And lastly this is where we showed your teachers that we could take a stance on the topic and soppurt it with evidence .

Poster artifact: The poster artifact was where we were grouped together with people that read our book to make a poster memorializing the deaths in a certian genocide. The growth visible in this would be on my understanding of what people went through and the death toll, and the fact that sometimes thats not enough to make something genocide even though it fits all of the catogories. This relates to my growth because now I know all about genocide and why it should or should not be one.

How artifacts exhibit growth: These artifacts show my growth because they both show that my understanding of the term genocide and what I learned throughout the unit. The first artifact shows that Was able to talk about the conflict in palestine and reference my materials (in some cases related to genocides). Another growth that this letter did for me was help me in my ability to write a perssuasive letter to tell my congressman what he should do. My second artifact shows my growth because it shows that I could find a statistic about my genocide and write a slogan telling the public how bad it was.

Implications for future growth: The implications for this growth for me as a student would be having the ability to write a letter using historical information and be able to learn about the confecpts that i am going to put in my work. And an implication of the poster project would be my ability to make a visual metaphor that represents something that I want people to think about.

How I will continue to grow: The way to I am going to continue to grow on the topic of both genocide and persuasive writing is that i am going to continue learning about politics and things going on around the world (such as the ISIS killings or super-bug out breaks). I am also going to continue writing paperss for the rest of life life whether that be a small business report or if it were a longer paper on genocide or the Isreali Palestinian conflict again. But with both of these I am going to continue growing with what happens on either of them.
